Troubleshooting Guide
Why heavy-duty drawer slides bind under load.
Drawer slides that move well when empty but bind under load usually point to deflection, side clearance errors, screw interference, weak structure, or load placed too far forward.
Quick answer
Heavy-duty drawer slides bind under load when the drawer, frame, or mounting surface changes shape as weight is added. Check the empty movement first, then watch the rails, drawer face, fasteners, and frame while adding load gradually.
Empty movement vs loaded movement
If the drawer binds when empty, start with installation geometry: rail spacing, parallel alignment, screw heads, and drawer square. If it only binds when loaded, the issue is often flex, load placement, or structure. The slide may not be the weak part.
Wide drawers, truck bed drawers, fridge trays, and tool drawers are more sensitive because the load can twist the drawer box or pull the rails out of parallel.
Common causes under load
Diagnostic checklist
- Remove the load and cycle the drawer several times.
- Add weight gradually and note the point where binding starts.
- Measure side clearance at the front and rear with the drawer closed.
- Look for shiny rub marks near screw heads and rail edges.
- Watch whether the mounting frame spreads, twists, or drops.
- Move heavy items toward the rear or center and test again.
How to reduce binding
Re-square the rails, improve frame stiffness, use lower-profile fasteners, reinforce the drawer box, and keep heavy cargo closer to the supported area. If the slides were mounted flat, switch to a slide and orientation intended for that load path.

COREAX product match
COREAX heavy-duty drawer slides should be side mounted on a rigid, parallel frame. For loaded truck, RV, and utility trays, plan slide clearance, fastener hold, lock access, and frame stiffness together.

Why do drawer slides bind only when loaded?
The load may be flexing the drawer, frame, or mounting surface, or it may be exposing tight clearance and screw interference that was not obvious when empty.
Can too much load damage drawer slides?
Yes. Excess load, poor support, forward-heavy cargo, or weak fasteners can damage the slide or the mounting structure around it.
Will lubrication fix drawer slide binding?
Lubrication may help normal movement, but it will not fix rail misalignment, screw rub, weak structure, or a drawer that sags under load.
