Stout, Simple, and They "Disappear"When You Don't Need Them
I like anything that gives me workspace when I need it and gets out of the way when I don't. These folding brackets do exactly that. The first thing I noticed was that they aren't flimsy. The stainless steel is reasonably stout, the locking mechanism engages positively, and there isn't a bunch of slop in the pivots. When they're locked open, they feel like brackets, not a science project. The 300-pound rating is always going to depend on installation. In my case, I tend to approach projects from a structural engineering mindset. I pay attention to load paths, backing, fastener selection, stud location, and how forces are transferred into the structure. Because of that, I believe my installation is capable of carrying substantially more load than the brackets alone would suggest. The release tab works well, they fold compactly, and they inspire confidence. My rule is simple: if I can lean on it, bump into it, give it the shake test, and it still feels solid, it's probably built right. These passed that test.

Now everything is shelf.
Despite how stable that these folding shelves are, they still manage to feel quite light.I really like how far they fold out, making them perfect for a sizable shelf that is pretty easy to throw together. They may be a bit harder to test until you have a board attached across them, as there isn't much of a handle and the folding arm can be a bit pinchy, I really like the latching mechanism . The only thing that I could see being improved is if it was designed in such a way to make the latch roll close without having to open the gate, but considering the low price of $16.50, these handle beautifully.
